SUMMARY
ApexCARES is an AI-enabled mobile and web platform co-created with Apex Harmony Lodge to help nurses communicate and care for residents with dementia more confidently. It tackles three real pain points on the ground—language barriers (dialects/slurred speech), information overload for new staff, and limited access to timely guidance. The solution combines a speech-to-text translator for dialects and slurred speech, a centralised resident behaviour database, and the Apex Virtual Assistant (AVA) that offers real-time, resident-specific suggestions drawn from institutional knowledge. Through field visits, personas, and iterative prototyping, we shifted from surveillance concepts to caregiver-empowering tools. The result: faster understanding of residents’ needs, smoother onboarding, and more dignified, person-centred care.
